About Us

The UMN Hospitals’ Endowment Trust (UMNHET) was set up in 2000 by Dr Bill Gould OBE (ex UMN Health Services Director), Margaret Gould, Roger Marston (ex UMN Finance Director) and Jen Marston. It aims to support hospitals to keep treating patients who would otherwise not be able to afford care.

It is an independent UK charity (registered number 1083226) administered by the trustees with the funds invested in two separately managed funds, Charities Official Investment Fund and St. James’s Place.

New donations are added to the Endowment fund and the interest earned is distributed in full each year to the Hospitals in Nepal. This gives security to our UMN founded hospitals, that they will have a sustainable, regular income for the Medical Assistance Fund.

New donations are particularly important in the current financial climate of low interest on our investments and yet high costs for our hospitals, to maintain a healthy capital base.

Administration costs are minimal and it is intended they remain so.

The UMNHET is typically able to send in excess of £32,000 annually to support poor patients in Nepal. More information is given in the trustees report and financial statements to be found in the Accounts page.
